MUSIC makes one more intelligent. Having non vocal classical music quietly in the background has been proved to increase IQ of children, and their concentration on their work. |

groups and singers who gave us some wonderful music. The groups and singers that come to mind are Gerry & The Pacemakers, Billy J Kramer & the Dakotas, Brian Poole & the Tremeloes, Dave Clark Five, the Searchers, Batchelors, Peter & Gordon, Four Pennies, Rolling Stones, Animals, Manfred Mann, Honeycombs, Manfred Mann, Hermans Hermits, Sandie Shaw, Cilla Black, Kinks, Moody Blues, Seekers, Tom Jones, Unit Four Plus Two, Hollies, Walker Brothers, Dusty Springfield, Troggs, Monkees, Petula Clark, Englebert Humperdink, Tremeloes Bee Gees, Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky Mick & Titch, Mary Hopkin & Marmalade. There were a few American groups as well, particularly the Beach Boys, Four Tops, Byrds, Sony & Cher, and Roy Orbison. Most of these are now History, and not heard of now. But they all produced some great music. But very few had more than three or four hits. Several of them had hits with Beatles music, usually written especially for them. Classical Music was what, in away was what I had been brought to listen too! It was when I had my first own one room flat in Totteneham, North London , in 1968 that I took the step of listening to classical music, particularly the great and popular pieces by Beethoven Tchaicoskow, Handal, Schubert, Mozart. The piece I most remember was Beethoven’s Emporer Piano concerto, I played it to Dilys when I first started getting to know her. Along with Beethoven’s Pastoral symphony I believe those two are two of the three best ever pieces of music. The third is Bruch’s Violin Concerto no 1. Those three have different elements, but unlike (to me) no other complete work has ALL its movements that I really enjoy and associate with. There are plenty of other great classical works that I really would put in my top list, but usually I would not include every movement. Such as Mozarts Clarinet concert, and his Piano concerto number 21. There is one movement in each that are probably the best classical music around, but I cant really associate with the other movements. Simialary Elgar’s Enigma Variations, only Nimrod stands out. I also like The Gilbert & Sullivan Comic Operettas, well not only the great music by Sullivan but the words by Gilbert, so full of puns! Then there are great musicals too like Rodgers & Hammerstein’s great shows. But the greatest of all such shows was I think “West Side Story” ( Music: Leonard Bernstein, |
